Traffic is now flowing in all directions at the newly-opened Kincumber roundabout, with two southbound lanes on Empire Bay Drive over Kincumber Creek now open.

Minister for Regional Transport and Roads Paul Toole said the $20 million project would improve traffic flow and safety for the 25,000 motorists who would typically use the intersection every day.

“We are glad to have powered ahead with this and other vital infrastructure projects, during the evolving coronavirus situation, because we understand their long-term value to local communities,” Mr Toole said.

“This is a great moment for locals, with all lanes on the new roundabout and both the two northbound and southbound lanes now open.

“The road has been widened to provide two lanes on the north, south and western approach and through the roundabout, and I’m absolutely delighted to see the traffic flowing through the new roundabout.

“We now also have new footpaths and pedestrian-activated traffic signals to improve safety for all road users.”

Parliamentary Secretary for the Central Coast and Member for Terrigal Adam Crouch said Empire Bay Drive had been a major pinch point in the past, with traffic building up as far as five kilometres during morning and afternoon peaks.

“I promised to fix the traffic problems along this section of road and that’s exactly what the NSW Government has done,” Mr Crouch said.

“Construction started in July 2018 and it has been a very complex project with utility relocations, land acquisitions and work carried out while ensuring traffic continued to flow along Empire Bay Drive.”
