A new public primary school at Warnervale is one step closer to completion, with the State Significant Development Application (SSDA) now approved.
Parliamentary Secretary for the Central Coast and Member for Terrigal Adam Crouch said the project had been shortlisted for speedy planning approval on 28 April.
“Today I am pleased to announce this $31.9 million project has received an official tick of approval. The next steps involve finalising the design and awarding a contract,” Mr Crouch said.
“The facilities will include 20 air-conditioned classroom spaces, a library, hall, canteen, OSHC, toilets, a drop-off and pick-up zone, and staff and administration spaces.”
Mr Crouch said 95,250 additional people would call the Central Coast home between 2016 and 2041, with Warnervale one of the region’s fastest growing areas.
“The school will be built to accommodate 460 students and can be expanded in the future to fit around 1,000,” Mr Crouch said.
“Not only does the project provide vital infrastructure for the growing community but it will also provide 225 construction jobs at a critical time for our Central Coast economy.”
Central Coast Council of P&C’s President Sharryn Brownlee congratulated the NSW Government on delivering early planning approval.
“Local families will be very pleased to hear this great news. Many are looking forward to a lovely new school, and other local families in the area not zoned to attend will also be pleased, as this means the many demountables in their children’s playground will be removed,” Ms Brownlee said.
“We also congratulate the NSW Government on the excellent consultation process that has been undertaken with the local community.”
The NSW Government is investing $6.7 billion over four years to deliver more than 190 new and upgraded schools to support communities across NSW. In addition, a record $1.3 billion is being spent on school maintenance over five years, along with a record $500 million for the sustainable Cooler Classrooms program to provide air conditioning to schools. This is the largest investment in public education infrastructure in the history of NSW.
