Statement on Central Coast Council

Regional development

I join our community in welcoming the Minister’s decision to consider suspending Central Coast Council’s Mayor and Councillors, and appoint an administrator.

The Council now has seven days to make a submission to the Minister before an administrator is appointed.

It is appalling that Council’s financial situation has deteriorated so far that the employment of more than 2,000 people is on the line.

Our community will also never forget that the Mayor and a bloc of Councillors awarded themselves a pay rise in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Over the past few weeks, the Council has hidden behind the cloak of confidential meetings, rather than representing the community with openness and transparency.

Unfortunately, the Council has not yet provided the NSW Government with information that indicates its true financial position, but what is known is that the path to recovery will be long and difficult.

Our community deserves better and the NSW Government will support the Central Coast every step of the way.
