Road Safety Grant awarded to ‘We Care Connect’

Wyong-based We Care Connect will receive $5,373.50 in funding through the NSW Government’s Road Safety Grant program.

Parliamentary Secretary for the Central Coast and Member for Terrigal Adam Crouch said the grant was one of 27 initiatives being funded to help reduce fatalities and injuries from road crashes.

We Care Connect collects pre-loved children’s clothing and household items, and supplies them to Central Coast families in need,” Mr Crouch said.

“This $5,373.50 grant will enable We Care Connect to deliver a new ‘Buckle Up Baby’ program, which aims to assist disadvantaged families by providing and installing car seats for babies and small children.

“By delivering this support to people who need it most, We Care Connect will also increase road safety awareness and support safer use of our local roads.”

Minister for Regional Transport and Roads Paul Toole said the grants play an important role in the delivery of the NSW Government’s Road Safety Plan 2021, which is guiding statewide efforts to reduce deaths and injuries from road crashes.

“More than 160 projects have been funded through the program since its inception in 2015, and now we’re rolling out even more because community groups are in a unique position to connect with local people about local road safety issues,” Mr Toole said.

“Community groups can reinforce our road safety messages in targeted ways that can make a real difference in encouraging people to be safer road users.

“One life lost on our roads is one too many, so programs like this to help drive home the road safety message, will make a real difference in regional communities.”

The funding of up to $5,000 for smaller projects and up to $30,000 for larger initiatives has been awarded for community-based road safety projects, such as educational programs to increase road safety awareness in communities across the state.
