Local Nurse, Sarah-Kathleen Colliss from Central Coast Local Health District has won Aboriginal Nurse/Midwife of the Year at the 10th annual NSW Health 2022 Excellence in Nursing and Midwifery Awards.
Sarah-Kathleen was selected from hundreds of nominations across NSW in eight categories which celebrate and recognise the outstanding nurses and midwives of NSW Health.
Parliamentary Secretary for the Central Coast Adam Crouch said Sarah-Kathleen Colliss was highly deserving of the honour for their passion and commitment to providing safe and high-quality care to all patients.
“As a registered nurse and the lead Aboriginal nurse at Nunyara Aboriginal Health. Throughout the pandemic, Sarah-Kathleen provided comprehensive wrap around care to COVID positive members of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community,” Mr Couch said.
“Sarah-Kathleen is a compassionate and caring nurse and is a valuable member of the Aboriginal Health team, here on the Central Coast.”
Health Minister Brad Hazzard and Regional Health Minister Bronnie Taylor congratulated the nurses and midwives for their outstanding commitment to providing world-class care to patients across NSW.
“These nurses and midwives deserve to be recognised for going above and beyond in their dedication to caring for patients, their families and communities every day,” Mr Hazzard said.
“I’d also like to take this opportunity to thank all of the highly skilled health staff for the excellent work they do across NSW, particularly during the past few years of the pandemic.”
Mrs Taylor said the awards highlight the important role nurses and midwives play in our rural and regional hospitals across NSW.
“These awards are a great opportunity to show our immense gratitude for our skilled and dedicated nurses and midwives who give so much of themselves to care for their local community,” Mrs Taylor said.
“Congratulations to the winners and a huge thank you to every one of our nurses and midwives for all that you do. You are all so valued.”
