While playgrounds and public spaces are currently closed to slow the spread of COVID-19, the NSW Government is working to ensure they are inclusive and accessible to all.
Parliamentary Secretary for the Central Coast and Member for Terrigal Adam Crouch today announced Central Coast Council would receive $25,000 from the Everyone Can Play program to upgrade Terrigal Rotary Park.
“The funding will enable shade sails to be installed and the softfall surface to be improved at this popular playground,” Mr Crouch said.
“Terrigal Rotary Park is already busy and well-utilised by our community but this funding will make it an even better space for children and families to enjoy.
“Public spaces are currently closed due to the COVID-19 risk but this has provided Council with an opportunity to get work underway as soon as possible.”
Planning and Public Spaces Minister Rob Stokes said the COVID-19 crisis had highlighted the importance of open spaces to the community’s health and wellbeing.
“This latest round of funding will help keep the economy moving in these uncertain times and create great spaces for families and children to enjoy once this crisis is behind us,” Mr Stokes said.
Central Coast Council is one of 30 successful councils to benefit from the latest round of funding through the NSW Government’s Everyone Can Play program.
Central Coast Mayor Lisa Matthews welcomed the announcement and said she was delighted to be part of the program, with funding given being matched by Council.
“Council is passionate about providing safe and engaging outdoor spaces for our community to promote healthy and active lifestyles and to help create a connected community,” Mayor Matthews said.
“This is another project that demonstrates how different levels of government working together can enhance the lives and achieve positive outcomes for the community.”
