Construction of the new clinical services building, part of the NSW Government’s $200 million redevelopment of Wyong Hospital, is now officially complete.
The six-storey building, known as Block H, features a new and expanded emergency department, a new and expanded Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and more.
Parliamentary Secretary for the Central Coast and Member for Terrigal Adam Crouch said staff and patients will access Block H for the first time on Tuesday, 12 October.
“The completion of this significant project couldn’t have come at a better time as the new and expanded critical care services are able to be utilised as part of NSW Health’s pandemic response,” Mr Crouch said.
“95,250 additional people will call the Central Coast home by 2041 which is why the emergency department and ICU have been designed with the capacity to grow in the future.”
Block H is home to:
- A new and expanded emergency department with capacity for an additional 13 treatment spaces,
- A new and expanded ICU,
- New inpatient units,
- A new ambulatory paediatric unit,
- A new and expanded medical imaging department, and
- An expanded Medical Assessment Unit with capacity for 28 beds.
General Manager of Wyong Hospital Chris Bone said the keys of the new building have been handed over from contractor Richard Crookes Constructions, marking the end of construction.
“I was thrilled to accept the keys to our new hospital building. The past few months have been a very challenging time for everyone, including staff at Wyong Hospital,” Mr Bone said.
“Our staff can’t wait to welcome patients into this wonderful, state-of-the-art new facility which will significantly boost health services on the Central Coast.
“It is particularly pleasing to be opening these new and expanded critical care services at this crucial point in our COVID-19 response.”
With work on the new building now complete, the NSW Government’s $200 million redevelopment of Wyong Hospital also includes a refurbishment of the existing facilities to provide:
- More operating theatre capacity,
- A completely refurbished sterile supply department,
- An expanded medical day unit, and
- An expanded transit lounge.
The refurbishment is on track to be completed in 2022.
