One of the Central Coast’s most iconic lookouts is set to receive a $430,000 upgrade from the NSW Government.
Parliamentary Secretary for the Central Coast and Member for Terrigal Adam Crouch said Crackneck Lookout at Bateau Bay will undergo a much-needed upgrade, to be delivered by the National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS).
“The COVID-19 pandemic has proven that Crackneck Lookout and the surrounding Wyrrabalong National Park is one of the Central Coast’s most popular destinations,” Mr Crouch said.
“NPWS has developed a concept plan for Crackneck Lookout which responds to the community’s desire for improved access, parking and open space. The proposed works will address congestion issues, increase capacity and enhance accessibility.
“I encourage everyone who lives in Bateau Bay or regularly visits Crackneck Lookout to get involved by viewing the concept plan and having a say on the proposed works.”
The concept plan includes:
- New and improved seating and picnic areas,
- New shaded areas,
- Accessible parking spaces, and
- Better pedestrian connectivity between the carpark and The Coast Walking Track.
Mr Crouch said the $430,000 project builds on a recently-completed $200,000 upgrade to a 1.2 kilometre stretch of The Coast Walking Track.
“Whether you are hang-gliding, bushwalking, whale watching or picnicking, Crackneck Lookout and the surrounding area is an iconic spot offering panoramic views,” Mr Crouch said.
“This area boasts so much natural beauty and the NSW Government is proud to invest in this much-loved natural asset to not only improve the visitor experience but also mitigate any negative impacts on the local flora and fauna.”
