The Terms of Reference for the Tuggerah Lakes Expert Panel, which aims to find the best ways to improve water quality, have been finalised.

Parliamentary Secretary for the Central Coast and Member for Terrigal Adam Crouch said the Expert Panel would focus on water quality.

“In 2019 the NSW Government committed to investigate the ongoing water quality problems in Tuggerah Lakes and that’s exactly what the Terms of Reference are focused on,” Mr Crouch said.

“The Panel’s purpose is to consider all of the existing information, what has previously been done, and what science says should be done in the future.

“The Chair of the Expert Panel, Associate Professor William Glamore, is well aware of the many and varied approaches to improving water quality in the Tuggerah Lakes system over the past few decades.

“The Panel will work hard to provide its final recommendations at the end of 2020, which will help Central Coast Council better formulate future strategies and actions.”

Member of the Legislative Council Taylor Martin said the Panel would also provide opportunities for community input.

“Thousands of people are rightly concerned about water quality at Tuggerah Lakes,” Mr Martin said.

“The Terms of Reference indicate there will be a chance for community input in the next few months for local residents and stakeholders to submit their feedback and advice.”

The Panel comprises a Chair and seven industry-recognised experts, and commenced its regular meetings in April.
