Return and Earn soars past 130 Million

Return and Earn has now soared past 130 million drink containers on the Central Coast, just two years after the initiative was first introduced.

Parliamentary Secretary for the Central Coast and Member for Terrigal Adam Crouch said Return and Earn had been highly successful across NSW.

“A massive 132,272,320 drink containers have been cashed in for 10 cent refunds, with the most popular return points located at Bateau Bay, Lisarow and West Gosford,” Mr Crouch said.

“Having more than 130 million drink containers recycled is not just good news for the environment, but it also means $13 million back in the pockets of local residents.

“The growth of Return and Earn on the Central Coast has been phenomenal and it highlights a shift in our community’s thinking and behaviour around litter.”

Mr Crouch said the summer months are peak season for Return and Earn, with the recent holiday period particularly impressive.

“Statewide between 21 December 2019 and 13 January 2020, there were 10 days with more than 7 million drink containers returned each day, including four days with over 8 million containers returned,” Mr Crouch said.

“I would encourage everyone to continue returning and earning drink containers all year round at one of the 20 collection points on the Central Coast.”

Return and Earn users can also donate to Cans for Koalas on all reverse vending machines. This ensures 10 cent refunds go to helping wildlife recovery from the fires, including helping to restore habitats and supporting the recovery of koalas and other species.
